The Griffin Spalding Education Foundation serves as the conduit for the funding of the school nurse program. Each year, $250,000 flows through the Griffin Spalding Education Foundation. Here are some of the success stories of the program:
In 2005-2006 school nurses:
· made over 48,000 student visits;
· made over 2,000 staff visits;
· administered over 21,700 doses of medication;
· secured eyeglasses for 25 students in need;
Out of 48,000 students who were assessed in the nursing clinic for various complaints, 92% were able to go back to class.
CPR/AED training was held for approximately 120 staff members in the Griffin-Spalding County School System in 2005-2006 after the system was able to purchase an AED for every elementary and middle school.
